Detailed itinerary

Pickup at Alfredo Vázquez Cobo Airport in Leticia at 9 a.m.
-
At 12 p.m., we’ll take the public riverboat down the Amazon River for 2 hours. We’ll pass by several indigenous communities.
-
At 2 p.m. on the same day, we’ll arrive in Puerto Nariño.
-
A local guide will be waiting to assist you with check-in at your hotel for the night (Hotel Paraiso Ayahuasca).
-
At 3:00 p.m. on the same day, we’ll take a private wooden boat down the Amazon River, sight the pink and gray dolphins, and visit Lake Correo to explore and watch the sunset.

At 5:00 p.m., we’ll return to the hotel to get ready for our next activity.

At 6:00 p.m. that same day, we will set out on a night hike through the jungle to see insects, frogs, snakes, tarantulas, and other animals.
At 8:00 p.m., we return to the town of Puerto Nariño and have dinner at Restaurant Los Hermanos Sanchez -
Spend the night at the beautiful Hotel Paraíso Ayahuasca

Visit the Peruvian indigenous community of San Antonio de Cacao to go sloth spotting.

8:00 a.m. breakfast at Hotel Ayahuasca
-
9:00 a.m. Activities begin: we will take a private boat and cross the Amazon River for 15 -20 minutes over to the Peruvian indigenous community of San Antonio de Cacao; an additional guide will be waiting for us to go sloth spotting where these beautiful creatures are found in their natural habitat in the Peruvian jungle.

12:00 p.m. We head to the San Antonio Peruvian indigenous community for a visit and to have lunch at a local family home, where we’ll sample a delicious traditional dish from the region, called Patarasca: fish is seasoned and wrapped in fresh Bijao leaves, then cooked slowly over fire.

At 2:00 p.m. we will return to Puerto Nariño to pick up our belongings for the next activities.
At 3:00 PM on the same day, we’ll take a private boat to Lake Tarapoto for a 40-minute ride; during the trip, we’ll have more opportunities to spot pink and gray dolphins. Once at Lake Tarapoto, we’ll head to the cabin on the shore of the lake to settle in, as we will be spending the night there, at Cabaña El Capinuri. -
4:00 PM: Go piranha fishing

At 6:00 p.m., we’ll head out on a boat for a night caiman safari to search for and observe caimans in their natural habitat. You will also have the chance to see the stars over Lake Tarapoto, on a clear night.
At 8:00 p.m., we’ll return to the cabin Cabaña El Capinuri for dinner and to rest.

9:00 AM Start of activities: leave Lake Tarapoto by boat and return to Puerto Nariño

10:00 AM Start of activities: jungle hike in the Puerto Nariño jungle. During the hike, you’ll see different types of medicinal plants and timber trees, explore the flora and fauna, and observe animals in their natural habitats. Then you will arrive at Wochine Nature Reserve to observe the largest fish species in the Amazon, which is also endangered: the pirarucu, as well as caimans, monkeys, and the lotus flower (Victoria regia).

12:00 PM: We will return to Puerto Nariño for lunch at Los Hermanos Sanchez

1:00 PM: We return to the hotel to prepare for the next activities.

At 2 p.m. we’ll visit Alto Del Aguila Nature Reserve to watch and feed squirrel monkeys and see macaws and eagles.
-
3:30pm: public boat leaves back to Leticia, and arrives at about 5:00pm. Your guide will stay in Puerto Nariño, and a hired tuk tuk or taxi will be waiting for you, to take you back to the airport or your hotel for the night (hotel on this night is not included in the price)

Recommendations and Suggestions

It is very important to have your passport or ID card on you, minors must have their identity card, or civil registry and the authorization of the parents (if only one of the parents accompanies you and if the program requires you to leave the country), if you are a foreign resident in Colombia you need your immigration card or passport (verify validity of the passport), as well as the current international certificate of vaccination against yellow fever, (apply with a minimum of 10 days before the trip.) and against tetanus. (Vaccines are a preventive suggestion but not mandatory).

For your trip to the Amazon include what is strictly necessary in your luggage.

Bring comfortable clothes that provide free range of movement, light and fresh (bring light colored garments, no black or dark garments). You can bring T-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, swimwear, caps or hats, sunglasses, comfortable footwear, sneakers, enough socks as well as refillable water bottles, raincoats, rubber boots, headlights or flashlights with their respective batteries or chargers.

If you take any medication under medical prescription, please make sure to bring it.
